Literary Analysis Paper- Introduction & Thesis

Hey students and parents, I really wanted to be in the classroom today, but I couldn't talk more than a whisper.  The plan for the day was for everyone to write the first paragraph of the Literary Analysis paper.  This is rough draft, so please be sure to double-space as you go.  If you wrote a paragraph in class today, and you were kind to the substitute, you get an A for the day!  If you were absent, or if you didn't get your paragraph done, please have it ready to go tomorrow when you come in.  Tomorrow we'll be writing the second paragraph together.

Also, the substitute passed out the assignment sheet for the paper today.  The due dates are 12.15.14 for the Rough Draft, and the final copy will be due 12.18.14. That means if you stay on track each day, we will still get everything done before the winter break.

Please know that I'd rather be with you guys!  It looks like I'm going to miss Wednesday as well, because I still can't speak more than a whisper.  I will be correcting papers and entering them into the grade book, even when I'm absent, so be sure to stay tuned to Synergy.  If you have any late work to turn in, it can go into the basket on the front table.  Hope it all goes well tomorrow!

Hola alumnos y padres, yo queria estar en el clase hoy, pero no puede hablar mas que un susurro.  El plan por el dia estaba que todos escribir tu primer parrafo del proyecto "Literary Analysis." Eso es un borrador, y que ustedes recuerden poner espacio doble.  Si escribieron un parrafo hoy, ya recibiste un A por el dia!  Si estaba aucente, o no te completaba un parrafo, escribalo para usar mañana en el clase.  Vamos a escribir la segunda parrafo ajuno mañana.

Tambien, el sustituto distribido el papel con los detalles del proyecto hoy.  La fecha por borrador es 12.15.14, y por la copia final 12.18.14.  Esto significa hay tiempo para completarlo antes del vacacion invierno si estas enfocado cada dia.

Tu sabes, mi preferencia es para assistir la escuela con ustedes!  Voy a perdir el miercoles tambien, porque no todavia no puedo hablar mas que un susurro.  Voy a revisar papeles y entrar marcas en la computadora, incluso cuando estoy aucente.  Entonces, ponerse attencion a Synergy por tus marcas, y si tienes tarea para mi, ponelo en el cajon en la mesa al frente de la aula.  Buena suerte mañana!

A Retrieved Reformation

For those of you wondering why the papers for A Retrieved Reformation are not graded yet, it's because for this assignment I'm required to grade these with other teachers from our school.  The 7th grade teachers have a meeting on Wednesday, and after that it shouldn't take long.  FYI.

Video of the Week: The Secret of La Chancla

This week in English we were talking about Figurative Language, and while I was describing Hyperbole/Exaggeration, I used the phrase "My Mom is going to kill me!"  The interesting thing is that in each of my classes, at least 2 or 3 students told me their mother would literally kill them.  I assured them their mothers love them, and pointed out that even if their mothers were masters in the Way of the Chancla, they would probably allow their children to live, if only so they could use the chancla on them again later! :)

Esta semana en ingles hemos un estudio de lenguaje figurativo, y cuando estaba describiendo exageración, lo utilicé el phrase "Mi Madre me va matar!"  La cosa interesante es en cada clase era 2 o 3 alumnos que me dijo sus madres haría matar sus niños literalmente.  Les aseguré sus madres los aman, y si son maestros en La Via de la Chancla, no va a matar sus niños.  Si los matan, no serán capaces de utilizar la chancla en el futuro! :)

Argumentation

This week we have started our study of argumentation.  For part of the second quarter we will focus on making claims, and citing the reasons we believe our claims to be true.  This week is the introduction, and after we get back from our long weekend we will go more in depth.  Stay tuned for details!

Final Draft Checklist

These are the notes we took today in class, which will help students make sure they have everything they need tomorrow:

1.   Did you complete all of the worksheets?

  • Use Your Senses
  • Plot Diagram
  • Character Attribute Web

2.   Did you complete a rough draft, either on the 3 column worksheet, a piece of notebook paper, or typed?

3.   Did you check to make sure your paper meets the format requirements on the Personal Narrative Assignment Sheet?

4.   Did you re-read your paper to make sure you didn't make any type-o’s?

Personal Narrative

Today we started moving directly towards the Personal Narrative!  The students have groups and partners, and tomorrow we will begin brainstorming.  Stay tuned for updates and ideas that might help with this writing project.

Zebra Quiz

Wednesday, October 15th we will have a quiz on the short story "Zebra" from our literature book.  This quiz is a combination of short answer and matching, and will be in the summative category, the part that is 75% of the overall grade.  You have 3 useful documents to help.  Good Luck!

Assignment Log & Documents

If you are trying to keep track of which assignments we have completed in class, look on the upper right side toolbar for "Helpful Links" and click on the Assignment Log link.  This link will take you to a Google Document version of our current assignment log. Also in the "Helpful Links" section is a link for documents, in case you can't remember what a document looks like, or need to print yourself a new copy.  I hope this makes tracking English classwork a little bit easier!

Si esta siguiendo de que tarea hemos completado en nuestra clase, busca al lado derecho por el menu llamado "Helpful Links" y elejir el link "Assignment Log."  Eso es una lista de la tarea hasta ahora.  Tambien en lo mismo menu, hay un selecion por documentos de tarea si hay causo necacita una copia nueva o recuerdo de que parece una tarea.  Espero que ustedes pueden encontrar que necacitan, y la vida es un poquito mas facil!
